We are pleased to inform our members that the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly consisting of all member states has renewed the mandate of the United Nations Global Compact through the General Assembly Resolution no. A/RES/70/296 dated December 10, 2015. This landmark Resolution paves the way for GCNI to play a significant role in helping and supporting key stakeholders in undertaking the implementation of the SDGs through mapping, monitoring, evaluation, specialist knowledge, its management and reporting exercises.
The Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (Economic and Financial Committee) has adopted a Resolution on the evolving strategic engagement of the  in multi-stakeholder partnerships, including with the private sector. The Resolution, under General Assembly agenda item 27 (Towards global partnerships: A principle-based approach to enhanced cooperation between the United Nations and all relevant partners), reiterates that the Global Compact’s broad mandate, which is “to advance United Nations values and responsible business practices within the United Nations system and among the global business community.
The Resolution is a landmark decision of the General Assembly offering a specialist role to United Nations Global Compact on its strategic engagement with key stakeholders and also in advancement of 17 SDGs, nationally, regionally and globally.
