In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic there is an increase in vulnerability of children to trafficking and exploitation. Increased poverty, low levels of education, dropping out of children from the education system and a lack of awareness of child-rights have increased the risk of trafficking for children. Children account for 27% of all the human trafficking victims worldwide, and two out of every three trafficked children are girls. Children are often trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation or for labour, such as domestic servitude, agricultural work, factory work and mining, or they’re forced to fight in conflicts.
