With the world bracing and fighting against a pandemic unknown to humankind less than a year ago, COVID-19 has, for better or for worse, changed the way lives were being lived. This change has not only led to the collapse of many existing industries, but also has paved the way for several emerging ones. It has pushed us into rethinking, revisiting our ways, to fit the new normal. Innovation is the guiding light that would provide support and sustainability to this new future.

Global Impact Innovation Challenge (GIIC 2020) is a platform provided by UN Global Compact Network India and Atal Incubation Centre- BIMTECH, an international global innovation challenge to highlight the solutions to the problems of the COVID era and beyond. The Challenge endeavors to find the most promising innovations, and enable them to create an impact at the global level.

The theme for the challenge is “to search for the new solutions of the new normal, focusing on the SDGs”.

GIIC 2020 is going to be a completely virtual event. The challenge is expected to be graced by dignitaries from Department of Science & Technology, NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), also by the partners like- Startup India, Invest India, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Blockspace, F6S, Wadhwani Foundation, GivFunds, Indian Angel Network, Keiretsu Forum Delhi - NCR, Kolkata Ventures, PayUMoney, PIOCCI, 100X VC, Startup Buddy, Msg91, Windrose Capital, Zoho etc.

It has supported 63 Startups till date since its operations started in January 2018. It has created 247 jobs via the incubated startups supported till date. Innovation here lies in the focus on creation of sustainable businesses through various public and private partnerships by providing market access and capital.

UN Global Compact Network India aims to mobilize a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the better world. The UN Global Compact Network India supports companies to do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption; and take strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.

GIIC 2020 invites innovators who have a mid-stage innovative venture (not less than a year) that could create sustainable impact. In addition, the innovation is required to demonstrate significant impact through results or proof of concept.
